Why do universities invest in cultural heritage collections? What impacts do primary source collections have on fulfilling the missions of a modern research university? The speakers will frame the ongoing acquisition of cultural heritage collections against the teaching , research, and outreach activities of a land-grant research university utilizing examples of transformational impact from two curatorial perspectives: cartoons and comics and the performing arts. The speakers will discuss how interaction with primary sources enables research exploration and deep engagement in the classroom, the creation of new knowledge and works of art, and contributes to current conversations on important societal issues. Speakers are Damon Jaggers, Vice Provost and Director of University Libraries, The Ohio State University. Nena Couch, Head of OSU Libraries’ Thompson Library Special Collections and Curator of the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute. And Jenny Robb, Curator & Associate Professor of The OSU Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum.
